Hamels Foundation~”Filly” Fashion Show

We were honored to be a part of the Filly Fashion Show this summer. It was held through The Hamels Foundation.  For those of you who are not familiar with this foundation, it is fantastic.  The Hamels Foundation has a dual mission to provide support for quality education in the United States and establish a school in Malawi, Africa. The Hamels Foundation is dedicated to enriching the lives of children and giving them the tools to achieve their goals. They do so many great things across the world.   This fashion show was just one of the many fundraisers they do…but it was one of a kind.  It featured several public male figures vying for the “2011 Most Fabulous Filly Award”.  They were dressed to impress and made a lasting impression on all those that attended… LOL . Our fashion “filly” was Ned Reynolds, sportscaster at KY3 News in Springfield, MO.  It was a lot of fun and it raised $7,200 for the “Care to Learn” organization.  Care to Learn was founded by Doug Pitt~brother of actor Brad Pitt.  Care to Learn provides immediate funding and action to meet any emergent health, hunger, or hygiene issue and restore a child’s self-respect so they can get back in the classroom.  So take a few minutes of your time to check out these great organizations..if each of us do just one small thing…it will bring big results.  We have a link  to see more of the Fashion Fillies(which will be sure to put a smile on your face) and a link about Care to Learn!  Enjoy :)

United Way’s ~Day of Caring

Hello!

What a  great day!   Today~August 18th~ is United Way’s “Day of Caring”.  We have a friend, Julie Reynolds, who is  very involved with a group that is through the United Way .  The group is called FLIP=Female Leaders in Philanthropy. This group is strictly based on volunteers.  These women are very dedicated to improving lives of others.  A few years ago Julie was in the process of setting up a “Boutique” that would provide women with the necessary clothing that would actually enable them to re-enter the work force.  This boutique, called “Suit Yourself” has made an impact on many women’s lives, including ours. Now, this has become our cause as well.  We have donated our items to FLIP for about 3 years now.  We are proud to be part of such a great organization.  When Julie tells us the many stories of the reaction the women have, we can’t help but get the “warm and fuzzy” feeling. Just knowing that we have a small part in making a difference in many women’s lives…by giving them the wardrobe and confidence to be able to dress for success…makes us smile…

We are sure that Suit Yourself Boutique and The United Way will be a’buzz today…  We can’t wait to hear Julie’s stories next week.  For more information on this cause, click on the links below.

Hello world!

Hello!

Welcome to “Out of the Box Twins”. We are Brenda Hopkins and Glenda Green. We are the co-owners of The Review Shoppe~an Upscale Resale/Retail Boutique in Springfield, MO.

In case you don’t know where that is…Springfield is home to Bass Pro Shop Headquarters, St. Louis Cardinals, several universities..such as Missouri State University, Drury, Evangel, CBC, BBC, …Medical facilities such as St. Johns and Cox Healthcare ..in case that doesn’t give you a clue as to where we are…THIS IS ALSO HOME TO BRAD PITT…:)….His Mom, Dad, Brother Doug Pitt and family still live here.  We do have sightings of Brad Pitt and Angeline Jolie around town quite often!

We are identical twin sisters. We are the youngest of (6) kids. Our Dad was a traveling salesman~and that is the truth..LOL! As children, we were mirror images. Our Mother dressed one of us in pink and the other in blue, so that people could tell us apart. Our Mother shopped resale and thift stores so pre-owned clothing was nothing new to us.

Between the two of us, we have seven children. So of course, in order to keep them in clothes (you know how they grow) we did the same as our Mom. We shopped in thift stores and resale stores, always trying to find the best brands at the best prices. It was a struggle to find the good brands and quality clothing…we knew the brands were there…we just couldn’t seem to find them!

Glenda was managing a retail children’s/ maternity store. Her job was to go to market and keep up with the upcoming trends in business. One of the things she read in the magazines and heard from other business owners was that the upcoming trend was going to be factory outlet stores, resale stores as well as online shopping. Brenda was working at Zenith Electronics. At the time, it was speculated that Zenith would be moving their plant to Mexico and shutting down their location in Springfield, MO.

In 1990, we put our heads together and decided to give it a shot~thus The Review Shoppe was born. We opened our first location on October 1, 1990. Our store was a whooping 1,000 square feet. We started from scratch and kinda like making soup…you keep trying until you get the right flavor combination for you!

We are excited about starting our new blog…because we loooove to talk! This is all new to us..so please bear with us as we start this new adventure. We will be talking about topics such as fashion, designer purses, upcoming fashion trends, and of course every day life!

Remember..If the shoe fits…Buy it in every Color!

Until next time~
